Busy Pacific Storm Season Hits Mexico and Hawaii
Satellite data showed Polo, Nolo and other systems moving through the region.
NASA Earth Observatory reported an active period for tropical cyclones in the northeastern and central Pacific. Hurricane Polo crossed Mexico's Baja California peninsula and later reached the Gulf of California, bringing risks from wind, storm surge, floods and mudslides.
Hurricane Nolo passed close to Hawaii and dropped more than 30 centimetres of rain in parts of Maui and the Island of Hawaii. Flooded roads, fallen trees and landslides were reported. NASA's Disasters Program is supporting the state response with maps and open data.
