Project Addresses Community-Scale Climate Grief

An Adelaide University project will develop community-level responses to grief, anxiety and distress caused by the loss of natural and cultural heritage. The researchers argue that climate-related disruption can weaken identity, daily functioning and social cohesion.

Rather than relying only on individual health services, the team plans to create culturally grounded tools with communities and mental health organizations. The work started in August 2026 and is scheduled to continue through 2031, so its toolkit and recommendations are future outputs.
