The agreement covers climate resilience, project finance and digital water management.
Ministers and senior officials from the 42 members of the Union for the Mediterranean met in Rome to address growing water scarcity and climate pressure. They approved a declaration that sets regional priorities for water-related development goals from 2026 to 2030.
The meeting also launched the Rome Initiative on Water, which aims to turn national goals into practical projects that can attract finance. Three additional frameworks cover links between water, energy, food and ecosystems; water-sector financing; and digital systems, including capacity building for artificial intelligence.
