Alcohol Limits Bring Early Results
WHO says Latvia's findings are promising but preliminary.
Latvia introduced shorter alcohol sales hours, delayed online delivery and limits on promotions and sales in gambling venues. The main measures took effect in August 2025.
A WHO evaluation found that deaths from causes entirely linked to alcohol fell by 27 percent during the first five months. WHO said this represented more than 60 avoided deaths, but longer monitoring is still needed.
