AI Drives Investment as Innovation Leaders Hold Their Places

WIPO ranked 139 economies and examined the growth of deep-science companies.

Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, South Korea and Singapore led WIPO's Global Innovation Index for 2026. The index compares 139 economies using measures such as research, infrastructure, skilled employment and technology output.

WIPO estimated that venture capital funding rose 28 percent to 510 billion dollars in 2025. AI accounted for 53 percent of the value, while the number of investment deals fell for a fourth year. The report also mapped more than 30,000 deep-science startups in fields including robotics, life sciences and quantum computing.
