Brazil’s Completed Runoff Count Confirms Lula’s Reelection

Name: __________________________ Date: __________________

Read the story

Brazil’s electoral court confirmed Lula’s reelection following Sunday’s presidential runoff. With counting complete, his share of valid votes stood at 51.79%, compared with 48.21% for Flávio Bolsonaro.

Approximately 128.2 million people cast ballots. Candidate percentages exclude blank and invalid ballots, whereas turnout counts participation. A vote share should therefore not be read as a share of the entire electorate.
