Plants Can Protect Riverbanks

Repair work may save money and improve water.

Researchers studied 95 kilometres of a creek near Brisbane, Australia. They looked at fixing damaged riverbanks and planting native plants.

The work can stop soil from entering the water. It may also help protect drinking water during floods. The study says the benefits could be worth up to four times the cost.
