Oxford Street Pedestrianisation Starts With a Temporary First Phase

Name: __________________________ Date: __________________

Read the story

Oxford Street’s section between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street is now closed to ordinary through traffic, including buses and bicycles. The phased transformation began on October 26.

Exemptions preserve access for emergency vehicles and mobility scooters. Initial public-space arrangements are temporary so users’ feedback can inform permanent improvements. Traffic removal is therefore an implemented measure, rather than evidence that the wider redesign has been completed.
