Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli became Formula 1’s youngest world champion after finishing third in the Mexico City Grand Prix on November 1. At 20, the Italian secured his first drivers’ championship with four races remaining.
The race itself was won by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who finished less than a second ahead of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton. Antonelli crossed the line behind them, having started fourth.
Antonelli had won the United States Grand Prix a week earlier but had not yet clinched the title. The result in Mexico settled the championship, making him Italy’s first Formula 1 world champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953, according to Sky Sports.
