NASA Tracks Iceberg A-81 as It Approaches South Georgia
Name: __________________________ Date: __________________
Read the story
An Antarctic iceberg that separated from the Brunt Ice Shelf in January 2023 has reached the vicinity of South Georgia, according to NASA Earth Observatory. After spending over three years in the Weddell Sea, A-81 travelled north into the Scotia Sea.
NASA's report, published October 27, uses an image captured by the Terra satellite on October 20. Scientists said the iceberg's progress had slowed near the edge of the island's submerged shelf. The report does not confirm that A-81 has run aground or say what it will do next.
