Read the story

Enrolments in several forms of Spanish study in China increased by 12.6% from 2023 to 2025, according to a new Instituto Cervantes yearbook reported by UNAM China on October 27. The measure combines language degree studies, optional subjects and Spanish courses for foreign-language learners.

At the yearbook's presentation in Beijing, institute director Luis García Montero said demand has risen since the pandemic and more teachers are needed. The report's enrolment figure should not be confused with a count of all Spanish speakers in the country.
