Spacecraft Model Crashes During a Test

Name: __________________________ Date: __________________

Read the story

A Space Rider model crashed during an October 6 test in Sardinia. ESA gave details on October 22, European Spaceflight reported. The first parachute opened, but the steering parafoil detached. Its cause remained under investigation.

Knowing what happened is not always knowing why. The parachute coming off describes the failure, but does not explain its cause. Also, the object was a test model dropped on Earth, not a spacecraft returning from an orbital mission.

Editorial correction, 26 October 2026: We reviewed source attribution, wording and reading practice, correcting unsupported claims where needed. This is a retrospective archive review; the original publication date is retained.

    2. Why the parafoil detached
    3. Whether this was described as a test
  2. Which description changes the test’s scope incorrectly?

    1. An Earth-based model descent
    2. A landing-system test
    3. A spacecraft lost on an orbital mission

Your turn
