A Monet Painting Sells for €50 Million

Read the story

Claude Monet's painting Iris sold for €50 million on Thursday. Reuters reported the sale on October 23.

It was expected to sell for €22 million to €30 million. Sotheby's said it was the highest price for any artwork sold at auction in France.

An estimate is a guide before a sale; the sale price is the result. A result can exceed the top of the estimate. A record for auctions in France is also narrower than a record for every sale in the world.
