Novo Nordisk Teams Up With OpenAI Across Research and Manufacturing
The Danish drugmaker plans to use AI from discovery through operations as competition in obesity drugs grows.
Novo Nordisk said on Tuesday that it is partnering with OpenAI to use artificial intelligence across much of its business, from early drug discovery to manufacturing and commercial operations.
The company said AI systems will help employees analyze complex data, identify promising drug candidates, and improve efficiency in supply chains and production. Pilot programs are expected to begin in several parts of the business this year.
The announcement comes as Novo Nordisk faces strong competition in the weight-loss and diabetes market, especially from Eli Lilly. Faster research and smoother operations could be important as the company tries to keep its position in a high-growth field.
Industry executives have said AI is already helping with repetitive and data-heavy work, even if it has not yet transformed the hardest parts of scientific discovery.
