French widow returns home after ICE detention

France helped an elderly woman leave US detention.

An 86-year-old French woman has returned to France after she was held by US immigration officers in Alabama. Her family said she was tired and shocked after the experience.

The woman, Marie-Therese Ross-Mahe, had moved to the United States many years ago to marry a former American soldier. Officials said she had stayed longer than her visa allowed.

French authorities became involved in the case. After that, she was released and allowed to fly back to Paris, where her children met her at the airport.

The story received a lot of attention because of her age and health. Her family said they were deeply relieved that she was finally free and back in her home country.
