U.S. and South Korea Face Tension Over Nuclear Information

Reports say the U.S. limited some intelligence sharing after a South Korean minister spoke about a suspected North Korean nuclear site.

Security coordination between the United States and South Korea

Reports on April 21, 2026 said the United States partly limited intelligence sharing with South Korea.

The problem began after South Korea's unification minister publicly named a suspected North Korean nuclear site in Kusong.

South Korean media said the U.S. was unhappy because sensitive information may have been discussed too openly.

A military official told Yonhap that some satellite-based intelligence sharing had been restricted, although missile monitoring and military readiness were still normal.

The minister defended himself and said he had used public information, not secret material.

The issue matters because the United States and South Korea work very closely on security. Even a partial restriction can raise concerns about trust between allies.
